Our Values
Human Connection and Inclusivity
We honor that each member of our company brings their own experiences, strengths, and insights. We respect the human dignity of all of our members. We create an open environment built on mutual respect and trust that empowers our members to voice their individual truths. We strive to come together as a collective to gain knowledge from each other while actualizing the strengths of each individual.
Growth & Work Ethic
While we aim to resist the often hyper-competitive, pressure-filled environment of the dance world, we also commit ourselves to maintain strong dance fundamentals, through emphasizing ballet training, challenging workouts, and proper technique. We dedicate ourselves to upholding an atmosphere of professionalism in both our rehearsals and performances.
Financial Accessibility
We understand that dance, especially in the 21st-century competitive world, can be an expensive art form. But we do not want finances to inhibit any members’ ability to join or stay in the company. With that understanding, it is our priority to make Ignite as financially accessible as possible through fundraising, smart budgeting, aggressive advocacy with CSAB, and the option for dancers to pay using payment plans
Trusting our Bodies
While we strive to create an environment for dancers to push themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally, we also emphasize the importance of accepting our bodies as they are. This means speaking about our own and each others’ bodies using respect and consideration, listening to pain and honoring injuries, and committing ourselves to recognize the value of all that our bodies do.
Creativity & Innovation
We acknowledge that dance acts as a powerful vehicle of meaning. We strive to create an environment that allows our dancers to explore the origin of their own style, while finding purpose and intention behind every movement. When choreographing, we aspire to push beyond our natural boundaries in order to create original movement.
